Daniel and Abel sat quietly in Daniels chamber’s. It was the first time the pair had found time to spend with each other in many weeks. “So how is married life treating you?” Daniel asked with inquisitive look. “I Trust Persia is not being as difficult as you thought?”
“And why do you say that?” Abel replied.
“I haven’t heard you complaining” he chuckled.
“She is not as argumentative as I feared” Abel agreed “How is my sister? you must be keeping her busy I haven’t seen her in some days”
“Sophie hasn’t been well” Daniel nodded, unable to hide the grin that slowly spread across his face, causing Abel to raise an eyebrow. “She’s been sick in the mornings” he admitted.
“Arh!” Abel nodded, understanding “then I assume congratulation’s are in order”
“Its still to early to be sure” Daniel replied barely able to contain himself.
“Sophie must be sure” Abel noted “I dare say I’ve never known her be wrong”
“Ok then we are sure” he laughed.
“Congratulations” Abel nodded patting Daniel on the shoulder.
“Thank you, but don’t be glum.. i’m sure it won’t be long for you either”
“Perhaps.. perhaps not” Abel replied half-heartedly.
“Still it must be nice to have someone to warm your bed at night?”
“I wouldn’t use the word warm and Persia in the same sentence” Abel replied. “I fear cuddling up to a block of ice would offer more comfort”
“Oh dear” Daniel laughed, “Well as soon as you get the first babe out of the way, then you can find someone warmer eh?!”
“If only it where that simple”
“She’s not refusing you?” Daniel asked the conversation suddenly taking a more serious tone.
“No” Abel shook his head “she isn’t refusing I wouldn’t let her, but she just lies there, it’s …. well … well distracting”
“At least she’s not pushing you away”
“True” Abel sighed “I have tried to get her more involved but she just doesn’t seem to understand”
“Doesn’t understand, or doesn’t want too?”
“Both I fear.. but I dont want it to be this way forever.. I fear it’s duty she feels obliged to perform”
“It is a duty she’s obliged to perform” Daniel chuckled “Oh well thats why I’m glad I got your sister.. she has no problems in such area’s”
Abel grunted and managed a weak smile, not wishing to imagine his sister performing any such things.
“So i’ve been meaning to ask how is Ailana?”
Abel nodded, glad to be off the subject of his sex life, but not entirely comfortable with the change of conversation either. “She’s well as can be expect, she hurt angry too no doubt but she’s recovering, the nuns refuse to allow too frequent visits so I fear im somewhat in the dark about her exact state of mind”
“She’ll be al-right” Daniel offered “there are worse places she could be”
“I know” Abel nodded, trying to hide exactly how worried he was. He felt completely helpless, he always got comfort knowing he was Ailana’s protector and now he just felt like he’d failed her.
“Have you seen Thomas yet?”
“Not yet” Abel replied “I fear if I was to see him right now, I’d be likely to kill him”
Daniel laughed again “I know I shouldn’t laugh, but I honestly don’t know what to do Thomas is making such a mess of everything, part of me wants to shake him and another part wants me to snatch the crown from his head and show him how it’s done”
Abel nodded in agreement, standing “Well Daniel, thank you for this evening you have saved me from yet another evening of my wife’s glaring, but I fear it is time for me to sleep”
